"The Vestal Police Department has ruled that the alleged stabbing of Isakhar Aminov, a former Binghamton University student, was in fact self-inflicted.

“The Vestal Police have concluded their investigation into the alleged stabbing of Isakhar Aminov reported on Aug. 27,” said Lt. John Taylor of the Vestal Police Department in a statement. “It has been determined that these wounds were self-inflicted by Mr. Aminov.”

“The investigation is concluded,” Taylor said Thursday when contacted for comment.

Aminov, of Chestnut Street in Binghamton, was found in a wooded area of Brooks Avenue in the Town of Vestal on Wednesday, Aug. 27, with multiple stab wounds.

According to a Press & Sun-Bulletin report, a local woman was led to Aminov, who had wounds to his neck and arm, with the help of her dog. Aminov reportedly told the woman that someone was trying to kill him, and that the attacker was still in the area.

The woman called 911 and Aminov was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital.

A hospital spokesperson who preferred to remain anonymous confirmed Thursday that Aminov is still a patient, and that he is in fair condition.

According to his housemate, Jan DeAngelo, Aminov transcribed the incident to him because he was unable to speak because of injuries. DeAngelo told Pipe Dream Monday, Sept. 1, that Aminov said he had been on a break at work at Chuck E. Cheese’s on Vestal Parkway East when two men tried to throw him in the trunk of a car. The men then stabbed him and threw him down the hill, DeAngelo said.

Doctors said that Aminov should regain his voice, DeAngelo added.

Aminov was computer science major who was taking a year off from school, but planned to return to BU, his housemate said.
