The Binghamton University women’s tennis team is set to hit the road today to compete in the USTA National Tennis Center Invitational in Flushing, N.Y.

The invitational will be the squad’s third of the season.

“We want to be competitive while still working on things that maybe we’re not comfortable and confident with so that when we get to our championship season in the spring … we’re ready to put those plans and strategies into play,” BU head coach Libby McGovern said, regarding the weekend’s invitational. “We need to use [those things] in matches to get more confident in order to use them successfully in the spring.”

Senior Emma Leibowicz and freshman Taylor Hollander are coming off consolation wins in singles play at the non-team-scoring Brown Invitational on Sept. 23.

“We’re not all that wrapped up in winning as our main objective,” McGovern said. “Obviously we’re more interested in making progress toward our goals, and things we need to work on and that’s much more important to me right now than winning.”

Binghamton is set to kick off play at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Flushing.
