This weekend, the Binghamton University men’s and women’s cross country teams are scheduled to head to the 2011 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships hosted by Colonial Athletic Association conference member University at Buffalo.

The men’s and women’s squads are coming off respective fourth and sixth-place finishes at the America East championships, which were hosted by University at Albany on Oct. 29.

Junior Vasili Papastrat, a Binghamton native, finished ninth overall for the men, earning All-Conference Honors and highlighting the Bearcats’ outing. Sophomore Caitlin Jelinek finished in 31st and was the Binghamton women’s top performer.

“The NCAA regionals [are] a great opportunity to see how we stand against the other 41 [Division I] programs in the region,” Binghamton head coach Annette Acuff said.

Team and individual winners of each race will advance to the NCAA cross country championships.
